The Crocodile's Toothache


The Crocodile
Went to the dentist
And sat down in the chair,
And the dentist said, "Now tell me, sir,
Why does it hurt and where?"
And the Crocodile said, "I'll tell you the truth,
I have a terrible ache in my tooth,"
And he opened his jaws so wide, so wide,
The the dentist, he climbed right inside,
And the dentist laughed, "Oh isn't this fun?"
As he pulled the teeth out, one by one.
And the Crocodile cried, "You're hurting me so!
Please put down your pliers and let me go."
But the dentist laughed with a Ho Ho Ho,
And he said, "I still have twelve to go-
Oops, that's the wrong one, I confess,
But what's one crocodile's tooth more or less?"
Then suddenly, the jaws went SNAP,
And the dentist was gone, right off the map,
And where he went one could only guess...
To North or South or East or West...
He left no forwarding address.
But what's one dentist, more or less?

Diphthongs and Triphthongs

Hello!
Here we meet again for our final work of Phonetics and Phonology course for these second term.

READ ALL BEFORE YOU BEGIN
1. Create a new post in your blog with the title: Diphthongs and Triphthongs.

2. Define the following terms in your post:

MINIMAL PAIRS

Welcome once more to your self learning "Phonetics and Phonology" program. Today we will talk about minimal pairs.

As usual, please read carefully the instructions and create only ONE blog entry or Post per class. If there is an * in the instruction number, it means that you should do something on your blog.

READ ALL BEFORE DOING ANYTHING

LONG VOWEL AND SHORT VOWEL SOUNDS

Hello P&P students. Today you will learn about the pronunciation of Long and short Vowels.

CONSONANT CLUSTERS

Good evening!

I hope that today you are able to follow instructions accurately. All you need to do is read all the instructions bellow.

1. Read all the instructions before you do anything.

2. Find 100 websites related to phonetics and phonology.

3. Create a summary of 200 words for each of the websites.

4. Find information about what are Consonant Clusters.

5. Create a post in your blog with the title Consonant Clusters.

6. Define what are consonant clusters in your post as number one.

7. Answer this question in a complete sentence in your post as number two: Which is the longest consonant cluster in English?

8. Make a list of 10 words that have difficult consonant clusters for pronunciation.

9. Post the 10 words, write its definition, write the letters that make the consonant cluster, and its recording (using vocaroo.com) so that they look like this:

Continue like this for the other words.

Creating a BLOG!!

Hello students.

Today we will create a tool that we will use for our future classes. We will create a blog. In the following videos you will learn about blogs. Before watching the videos be sure to follow these instructions:

1. Create a KWL chart like this one in a Word document and fill in the first column.

3. And now fill in the second column by writing down in your own words what is a Blog in the same word document.

5. Create your Blog. Make sure the Title of your blog is "(YOUR NAME) UPPER-INTERMEDIATE ENGLISH BLOG", and the url of your blog "(YOURNAME)UPPER-INTERMEDIATE" (all together).

6. Fill in the last Column of your chart.

7. Create your first post like this:

Title: My first post

Body: Copy/Paste the work you did in the Word document.

8. Identify the url of your blog (e.g. http://masterzea.blogspot.com/).

9. Go to http://masterzea.wikispaces.com/ click on EDIT, and in the chart write your code, name, and the url of your blog. Finally click on save.

Today we will Do our final work with the phonetic alphabet IPA. Just follow the instructions to do today's activity.

In a word document with the title: Pronunciation Exercises. Create a chart as follows:

Now follow this instructions to fill the chart.

1. Select 5 of the following words and write them in the first column:

gorgeous, thoroughly, daughter, challenge, enhance, variety, influence, effect, whistle, throughout

2. Listen to their pronunciation by using this website. Practice your own pronunciation.

3. Try making the phonetic transcription according to what you heard. You can use the this website to make it. Copy your phonetic transcription in the second column.

4. Use the following website to verify the correct transcription and write it in the third column.

5. Now practice again the pronunciation of the words. Record them. Compare them with the exercise done in step 2. And when you are ready, go to step 6.

6. Record your pronunciation of the words in this website. Paste the link in the last column of your chart.

7. How was this exercise useful for you? Write your answer under the chart.
